| As more seniors come to us, including veterans and the new wave of needy baby boomers who are living on fixed incomes, with significant health problems, and finding themselves isolated and alone, we are expanding our existing and developing new programs to meet their needs. We provide INDEPENDENCE through Affordable Housing for seniors who wish to avoid living out their lives in institutional settings, thereby INCREASING THEIR DIGNITY and reducing convalescent care costs. The VS-65 Senior Veterans program provides transitional housing and support services for homeless veterans. They gain the ability and means to LIVE INDEPENDENTLY through housing referrals, benefits advocacy, and life skills classes that include cooking, shopping and budgeting. We also provide 3 meals a day, physical and mental health evaluation, transportation, and recreational activities. Case management continues after clients are placed in permanent housing. Since 1986, VOALA has teamed with the entertainment industry to LIFT THE SPIRIT of L.A.’s impoverished elderly with our Holiday Meals programs. Over the years, these signature events have created long-lasting FRIENDSHIPS, FOND MEMORIES AND HAPPINESS for the many elderly we serve, who have no family to spend the holidays with. Annual events are held on Mother’s Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas. Our Companion Animal Program helps low-income seniors keep their furry friends. Program offers various PET CARE NEEDS including delivery of free or discounted pet food and supplies, veterinary and grooming services, pet transportation, pet sitting, emergency and disaster planning, adoption and placement and referrals.
