Talent Search provides support and information on all aspects of planning for admission to – and graduation from – a post-secondary institution (College/Universities). Each year, we serve more than 500 high school students who are 1) from low-income families, 2) from families in which neither parent holds a college degree, and/or 3) those who are at academically at-risk. 9th, 10th, and 11th graders are eligible to apply. Participants are expected to remain in the program for all years they are in high school.
Students are encouraged to utilize most services ‘As-Needed’
On average, every admitted student can expect to attend roughly 1-2 meetings/services each month
The program provides information to assist students in graduating from high school, completing their A-G requirements, assisting them in planning for college entrance exams as well as college and financial aid applications, as well as career development assistance. The goal of the program is to increase the rate at which participants complete secondary education, enroll in and graduate from institutions of post-secondary education. Participants are also able to access free tutoring services, attend field trips (virtual and in-person when possible), and get to speak with a dedicated, care staff member 1-on-1 to work with you whenever you need it.
Key Differences with Upward Bound: Talent Search is far less selective in who is admitted into the program due to the much higher availability of seats in the program. Therefore, the application process is much simpler, requiring no recommendations or interviews. Once admitted, you will find that you will have a variety of options to connect with this incredible community of scholars. We cannot wait to welcome you to Talent Search with open arms!

Upward Bound aims to increase the rate at which participants complete secondary education and enroll in and graduate from post-secondary education (College/University). The goal of Upward Bound is to create a close-knit community of young leaders who are all going to college. We provide 1-on-1 Academic Advising, tutoring in multiple subjects, field trips (virtual and in-person when able) college application/financial aid assistance, free college courses in the summer, additional academic instruction in core subjects and foreign languages, PSAT/SAT/ACT test preparation, career exploration opportunities, and mentoring to assist participants in deciding on potential college majors, ideal colleges, and career options.
Key Differences with Talent Search: Upward Bound is far more selective in who is admitted into the program due to limited available seating. Therefore, the application process includes a couple essays, 2 teacher recommendations and an interview. Once admitted, you will find that you will get to know every single member of the program and get to spend much more time 1-on-1 with our caring staff. We look forward to welcoming you into the Upward Bound community!
