Head Start

For children aged three to five we offer early education, child development, nutrition, parenting support and preparation for elementary school. All children receive educational experiences that are developmentally, culturally, and linguistically appropriate. The focus is on readiness to move to kindergarten.  Literacy, numeracy, and social/emotional development are areas measured for growth and development.

Children also receive a broad array of health services including screenings and referrals, maintenance of immunization schedules, nutrition assessments and follow-ups, mental health assessments as part of initial screenings, and determination if any mental or physical delays are present.  Children receive health and dental services and have access to ongoing and acute and routine health and dental care. Enrolled children receive healthy meals, along with an assessment of their nutritional needs and the necessary follow-ups.  Nutrition education is available for parents and incorporated into daily classroom activities for the children.

Mental health services are available to children and their families, and include screening and assessments for children, training for parents and staff members, access to mental health professionals, and monitoring of all mental health services.

At least ten percent of enrollment is reserved for children with disabilities. Children with suspected and identified disabilities receive appropriate services and support.

One of the key components is the participation and dedication of parents and family members.  We offer parent and family member activities including classes, trainings and workshops at all of our sites. We work with parents to create goals and identify strategies to meet those goals.
