VOALA Celebrates Grand Opening of Discovery Head Start in Compton

Volunteers of America Los Angeles (VOALA) celebrated the grand opening of its new Discovery Head Start facility in Compton, California, marking an exciting expansion of early childhood education and family support services in the community.

The new facility features an engaging space-themed environment designed to spark children’s curiosity, creativity, and imagination while providing a welcoming setting where young learners can grow, explore, and prepare for future success.

VOALA was honored to welcome community leaders and special guests to the grand opening celebration, including City of Compton Mayor Emma Sharif, Chief Ronerick Simpson, and Councilmember Lillie P. Darden.

A Legacy of Supporting Children and Families

Established in 1965, Head Start was created to help children from low-income families build the skills and foundation needed to succeed in school and beyond. What began as an eight-week summer program has grown into a comprehensive national early childhood development program that has served millions of children and families across the country.

Today, Head Start and Early Head Start provide a comprehensive approach to early childhood development that extends beyond the classroom. Programs promote school readiness and support children’s educational, social, emotional, health, and developmental needs while engaging parents and connecting families with valuable resources and services.

Through its Head Start and Early Head Start programs, VOALA is proud to continue this important legacy by providing free early childhood education and supportive services to eligible children and families throughout Los Angeles County.

The opening of Discovery Head Start represents VOALA’s continued commitment to strengthening communities by investing in children and families and helping ensure that every child has the opportunity to learn, grow, and thrive.
