Letter from Bob Pratt, CEO to VOALA team

June 4, 2020

To:       Volunteers of America of Los Angeles Team

From: Bob Pratt, CEO

Given the turmoil of the last week, I wanted to reach out to the members of the VOALA team directly.

VOALA unequivocally condemns the killings of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery and so many others before them.  We recognize and understand that these senseless deaths are sadly the most recent examples of a long and inexcusable history of systemic racism, discrimination, and violence toward people of color every day in America.

The mission, values, and purpose of VOALA – indeed, the work you do every day – are all focused on serving and uplifting those most impacted by injustice and inequity in our community.  We will remain steadfast in this work while continually examining what more we as an organization can do to not only provide services, but to dismantle the structures and systems that stand in the way of equality, inclusion, and opportunity for every single member of our society.

The critical but challenging work you engage in everyday has become even more difficult in this time of COVID-19 and now the civil unrest following the abhorrent death of George Floyd.  We remain committed to your  safety and wellbeing as you advance the vital mission of VOALA.

Thank you for your efforts  to recognize and empower the potential in each and every individual we serve.  As an organization and as a team, we are united in our abiding commitment to build a society free of racism where all have the equal opportunity to thrive.
